Resin in the world of handball

The sticky substance that you see in particular at higher level matches of handball, is an integral part of the handball world. The resin that is applied to the ball makes a game of handball better, faster and more interesting to watch. That is of course exactly what we want. However, there is also a downside to the use of resin. Namely, most handball clubs in the World rent their sports halls from their municipal government and local governments are usually less happy with the use of resin as it can leave nasty marks on the sports fields.

How to use resin

The resin can be used by spreading it out over the handball. Most resin is available in a jar, which allows you to easily take some of the resin out of the jar with your fingertips. Then, you distribute the resin over the different fingertips, after which you can apply it to the handball. It is important that you distribute the resin evenly over the ball by turning the ball around. In this way, you prevent large amounts of resin from sticking to one spot on the ball, as these types of spots are the ones that leave marks on the sports floor while playing handball and that you, as a handball player, will then walk over again with your shoes.

Different brands of resin

At handballshop.com we offer different brands of resin. The most sold resin brand in the Netherlands is SELECT. The SELECT Profcare resin is available in 100 ml, 200 ml, and 500 ml. The resin has a strong adhesive power and does not become hard, which makes the handball feel soft in your hands. The resin is approved by the European Handball Federation and is often used at European and World Championships. Our handball shop also sells resin by Hummel. This resin contains a blend of natural and vegetable oils which make the resin easy to apply and make sure that the resin does not become too hard. This resin is available in a jar of 500 ml. The resin by the brand Kempa is also very popular in the handball shop. The Kempa resin is available in 200 ml and 500 ml, so that you can easily share a jar with your team while playing handball. The resin consists of 70% resin, 29.4% vegetable oil, and 0.6% essential oils, which contributes to a fine and soft resin that is easy to apply on the handball.

Removing the resin

When you are going to play handball with resin you want the resin to come off your hands easily after every training session and match. On Handbalshop.com we sell different resin removers that make sure your hands will be clean. You can also clean your hands after having used resin by using baby oil. In addition, for cleaning your handball, we offer several resin removers in our shop. You can use these resin removers by applying the gel on the ball, letting it soak in and then cleaning the ball with water. Because of the water used, the ball must dry after cleaning. On handball fields you will also see handball players cleaning the handball themselves before training sessions and matches. Often, a small ball is made and built up from previously used resin, with which you can remove the resin from the handball. Even when cleaning the handball and your hands, resin can sometimes leave stains on your handball clothing. These stains can be easily removed with SELECT's textile spray.

Popular handballs for resin use

The product descriptions of handballs indicate whether or not they are suitable for resin use. If a handball is not suitable for using resin, and you do use resin, the handball can become seriously damaged. Handballshop.com has selected the most popular handballs that are suitable for using with resin for you. By the brand Select, the SELECT Advance, Ultimate, and the Ultimate Replica, are very popular for using resin. The resin sticks well to the ball and can also be removed easily. The popular Erima Vranjes'17 handballs are also very suitable for resin use, as they are hand sewn. To make the choice complete for you handball players, there are also the Hummel Concept Plus and the Kempa Spectrum Synergy Plus, which are high quality handballs suitable for resin use.
